Performance

SKD61 hardness:

Before heat treatment, SKD61 is about: HRC 15~20 (HB200~230).

Hardness after heat treatment: Internal HRC 40~45° Surface HV1000±100.

The density of SKD61 is: 7.85 grams per cubic centimeter.

Hardness after TD treatment: internal HRC 40~45° surface HV2500 or more.

Heat treatment

Quenching:

First stage preheating: 500~550℃

Second stage preheating: 750~800℃

Blow cooling or high pressure air cooling, etc., enter the tempering furnace at 100~150℃.

Conditioning:

Preheating: 300~350℃

Tempering heating: 550~680℃

Air-cooled to room temperature and tempered three times. The quenching temperature is 1000~1050 degrees, the hardness is 50~55HRC, the heat treatment deformation is small, and the surface can be nitrided and nitrided, so that the processed products have better wear resistance.

Low temperature treatment

For maximum hardness and dimensional stability, molds are cryogenically cooled at -70 to -80°C immediately after quenching, held for 3-4 hours, and then tempered. The hardness of cryogenically treated tools or molds is 1-3 HRC higher than that of conventional heat treatment. For parts with complex shapes and large dimensional changes, cryogenic treatment has the risk of production cracking.

Nitriding treatment

After the mold or workpiece is nitrided, a hardened layer structure with high hardness and certain corrosion resistance is formed on the surface.

Mechanical behavior

Hardness: Annealed, 235~205HB, quenched, ≥50HRC
